Lobster fever on Vrångö

It’s hard to explain to someone who has never experienced it, but as lobster season approaches, a very special atmosphere settles over our little island, a kind of restlessness.

It shows itself in boats being polished, propellers, engines and life jackets being checked and double-checked. Lobster pots are counted and inspected, eyes are constantly drawn towards the horizon, and weather apps are opened more times than anyone would probably care to admit, checking which way the wind is expected to blow.

Because Monday is the start of lobster season, and it certainly doesn’t go unnoticed.

If the weather is on our side, a small armada of boats will leave the harbour very, very early on Monday morning. At precisely 7 am, the first lobster pots will be lowered into the sea in search of the black gold.

There is something rather special about being on an island where so much of life is still shaped by the sea. The start of lobster season is one of those days you can feel throughout the harbour. People talk about the weather, the wind, the boats and the pots. Who is heading out, when they are leaving and what they think the first catch of the season might bring.

Our lobster fishing packages have been fully booked for quite some time, and we’re looking forward to following this year’s fishing from the best possible seat – right here on Vrångö. Hopefully, we’ll see a few boats returning with a good catch and some very happy fishermen on the quay. 

If you didn’t manage to book this year, there will be new opportunities next autumn.
