Håkan lazily stretched out in bed and rubbed the sleep from his eyes. He adjusted his nightcap and tentatively wiggled his feet that stuck out at the bottom from under the fluffy covers. Today was the first of December, and the night before Håkan had made his bed with his nice, red Christmas sheets with Santa Claus on them. They were his favorites and all year from January to December he longed to bring them out again! But despite the lovely sheets, Håkan had slept badly last night. Horrible dreams that Santa wasn’t real, that it was all a lie had haunted him and he had woken up in a cold sweat several times. Even though he had turned on his night lamp, which always helped when he had nightmares, there was no calm and Håkan felt anything but rested. This day always used to be so much fun, the kick-off to all the coziness that Christmas meant! Now he felt mostly grumpy and easily irritated.
As he swung his legs over the edge of the bed to put his feet in his nice reindeer slippers with a red nose at the front, he was met instead by the cold floor. Surprised and horrified, he quickly pulled his legs back up on the bed and wrapped his arms around them. He cautiously peered over the edge of the bed. Håkan was a great friend of order, and he always put the slippers in the same place, every evening. Having his little feet be met by freezing cold floors first thing in the morning was not something he appreciated, no, absoluely not! He absent-mindedly scratched the white hair sticking out from under his nightcap. He could swear he had put the slippers back on as usual yesterday. Again he peered over the edge of the bed but soon realized that the slippers were not where they should be. “Oh, great!” he thought ironically to himself. “As if this day couldn’t get any worse.” He continued to mutter as he clenched his fists over his chest and quickly tripped down to the floor, careful to put as little of his foot on it as possible. With his fastest toe-steps he then made his way to the kitchen where, as quick as an eye, he lit a fire in the fireplace, and with a sigh of relief let his feet sink into the thick, fluffy rug.
Håkan was just about to take a sip from the large cup of hot chocolate that he always started his day with, when he noticed something strange. There, suddenly, were his slippers, in a row, as if they were going somewhere. With whipped cream in his moustache, he carefully crept closer to investigate.
At the same time, in the old pilot lookout, a feverish activity was going on. Pawing steps went back and forth across the floor and through the thin panes of glass you could sense a warm glow. No one saw, but if anyone had looked closely that night, they would have seen two ears suddenly appear in the window, followed first by a scattered bang with glitter in it. After that a pair of binoculars. The binoculars were aimed at Håkan’s house. There was humming and grunting, and as time passed, a pile of gingerbread crumbs formed on the floor, about 3 centimeters below the binoculars.
Today we ran into the frozen Håkan, he was still looking for his favourite slippers! He wanted to take the opportunity to send a greeting to all of you who are as frozen as he is, that if you book with us in January and use the code “VINTERVILA”, you will not only get half the price of accommodation when you book at least two nights, we also make sure that those of you who book get access to the sauna raft with wood-fired sauna, hot tub and refreshing cold water swimming, on at least one occasion during your visit! Håkan, of course, skips the cold water, he just wants to be warm, but the rest of you who got inspired can read more about our offer “TWO FOR ONE” and maybe put an experience for you and a friend under the tree this year?
