Vrångö

The coziest island on the Swedish west coast can be found at the far end of Gothenburg's southern archipelago.

Car-free Vrångö is something very special, the genuine archipelago atmosphere in the harbor with the white boathouses and fishing boats brings to mind another time. Here you can feel the beat of history, the calm, the silence and the shifts of the sea. Vrångö has previously distinguished itself as the island of fishermen and pilots, today people go to Vrångö for the beautiful nature, the best seafood and the fine beaches. The settlement stretches like a belt across the island and both north and south of the settlement are nature reserves. Through the reserve you will find hiking trails that take you through thickets, past beaches and up to viewpoints with breathtaking views of the archipelago.

The pilot house

Pilotage has been important on Vrångö and the profession was passed down. The pilots moved from Vrångö to Vinga in the 1930s. Remaining as a memory is still the little red house at Utkiken, which has become a symbol of Vrångö. Climb the stairs and watch the sunset from here, the view is unbeatable.

Vrångös beaches

Vrångö is known as Gothenburgers' best swimming island. There are several beaches and swimming spots to choose from, and if you venture out onto the rocks outside the walking path, you will surely find your own cove or rocky outcrop.

Hiking trails

The nature is a mixture of Halland's sandy beaches and Bohuslän's rocky beaches. Along the shores grow rare and less common species, such as wild asparagus, cress and sea buckthorn. On Vrångö there are 8 km of easily accessible hiking trails through the nature reserve.

The Vrångö village

Vrångö has a year-round population of 400 people, but thanks to the island's permanent summer guests, the population triples during the summer, and on sunny days thousands of visitors also pour in on day visits from Gothenburg. Vrångö's guest harbor is then also filled with leisure boats

Restaurants and grocery store

On Vrångö there are two restaurants, Hamnkrogen Lotsen and the summer restaurant Ternan. Lotsen also runs a fish shop that boasts the archipelago's finest seafood. In the harbor you will also find the year-round shop which, despite the sparse surface area, can offer most of what you could possibly need.
