The first Monday after September 20 is the lobster premiere, and since early Monday morning there has been feverish activity in Vrångö harbour. Now guests from near and far have also checked in at Kajkanten to accompany Mattias, one of Vrångö’s professional fishermen, out to sea
Accompanying the fishing boat Glittskär on lobster fishing is an unbeatable experience. In Mattia’s family, people have been fishermen for as long as they can remember, and today he and his son Axel continue to run the business.
Cage fishing takes place all year round, but this time of year it is mainly lobster that is caught. Leisure fishermen may fish throughout November and professional fishermen until December 31. Lobster fishing is strictly regulated to protect the stock. Only lobsters with a carapace of at least 9 cm long may be caught, if it is smaller it must be returned to the sea. How many lobster tins you can use is regulated. Professional fishermen have the opportunity to put out more tins than those who are leisure fishermen.
It is also forbidden to collect females with rum, which hopefully contributes to the lobster population not declining.
