Window 8 - Dec 8

When Håkan opened his eyes in the morning, the first thing he did was look at his snow globe. To his great horror, he saw that it had lost even more of its former glory during the night. Santa didn’t look as happy as he remembered, and the child barely seemed to care about Santa standing there waving. He felt that he was losing hope. Had he just imagined all the wonderful things associated with Christmas over the years? What if Kjell was right? Santa did not exist? Was it all a big conspiracy, designed for him to live in delusion and be extra sweet all year? Was this a worldwide, evil plan that parents used to get their children to behave and be nice?

With these depressing thoughts in his head, he put his feet into the reindeer slippers. Luckily, today they were at least where they were supposed to be. But when he stuck his feet in them, someone said “Ouch!” with a squeaky voice. Terrified, Håkan pulled his feet up under him again. With a shaky voice and half hidden behind the covers, he bravely asked, “W-w-who there?” He didn’t quite recognize his own voice, and didn’t quite know if he actually expected an answer. When the squeaky little voice replied “We of course, who did he think it would be? Santa?” Håkan quickly crawled backwards and pushed himself as close to the wall as he could get. The small voice continued: “We’ve been waiting a long time now, but now it’s serious.” We wonder if we can save this. We wonder if we have waited TOO long.” Håkan’s brain was racing. He was pretty sure he didn’t imagine the little voice was speaking to him. He wondered who it belonged to. It didn’t sound like it came from a big and scary monster with fangs, and not from Karius and Baktius either. He regained his courage and asked with a trembling voice, “Er…u-excuse me for asking, but who exactly are ‘we’?”. As he asked, he wondered if he really wanted to know and he pulled the covers a little higher over his face, bracing himself for the worst. Was this the moment he was finally devoured by the closet monster?

Ugh, what horrors our Håkan gets into! How will this end?
